Custom Chicken Polyclonal Antibody
Bio-Synthesis (BSI) provides chicken
IgY polyclonal antibody production in its USDA-licensed facility using Sex-Sal or
Leghorn Hen. Chickens produce an immunoglobulin (IgY), which can be isolated from
blood or egg yolk. Compared to the more familiar mammalian IgG antibodies, chicken
IgY antibodies not only have higher affinity and avidity but also lower cross-reactivity.
The following are benefits of choosing chicken IgY polyclonal antibodies:
- High yields: Each egg yolk contains approximately
100 mg of antibody (IgY) before purification
- Large quantities: Each chicken will average
one egg every 2-3 days, no need to bleed the animal.
- Non-mammalian system: Chickens are not mammals
and therefore are more apt to making high affinity and avidity antibodies to mammalian
antigens. For highly conserved mammalian proteins, raising antibodies in an avian
(chicken) system is often a preferred alternative.
These advantages are rendering chicken IgY antibodies more popular in laboratory
research and point-of-care (POC) diagnostics.

We can produce chicken IgY antibody with a wide variety of antigens, from bacteria,
viruses, fungi, fusion proteins, synthetic peptides, and plasmid DNA, as well as
a variety of other proteins. Typical antigen requirement for is 2.0 mg conjugated
peptide/animal, and 1.0 mg protein antigen/animal. However, amounts may vary due
to antigen availability and additional antigen is required for affinity purification.
Additional animals are available for all service packages.
One production schedule
is available for our chicken IgY polyclonal antibody services. We can produce polyclonal
IgY antibodies using our standard protocol or by a customer-designed protocol. We
also supply polyclonal production from other species, including rabbit, guinea pigs,
goat, sheep, rat, and mouse.
BSI supplies a
Polyclonal Antibody Information Sheet with each inquiry to assist in meeting
our customer specifications.
