What is a TaqMan MGB probe?

MGB stands for minor groove binder. It is a non-fluorescent quencher that increases the Tm of a probe, because of its minor groove binding ability. Therefore, MGB probes are about 13 to18 nucleotides long, shorter than other types of probes.
