Locked Nucleic Acid (LNA™) is a conformationally restricted nucleic acid analogue, in which the ribose ring is "locked" with a methylene bridge connecting the 2’-O atom with the 4’-C atom which significantly increases Tm (i.e. stabilizes the duplex in A-form conformation) as well as provides resistance to nuclease degradation. LNA™ nucleotides containing the six common nucleobases (T, C, G, A, U and mC) are able to form base-pairs with their complementary nucleotides according to the standard Watson-Crick base pairing rules.
