| Bio-Synthesis continued to provide quality DNA products and services for the research community, but it has also become a world leader in providing custom peptide products and services. Using state-of-the-art solid phase peptide chemistries, molecular-based PNA FISH tests that provide rapid identification of bloodstream pathogens in hours instead of days, enabling labs to quickly report critical information to physicians and pharmacists to ensure optimal therapy and help reduce death rates for patients afflicted with bloodstream infections. |

Chromosome Structure |
|
| |
PNA chemistry can be used to fabricate small oligomers. When dye-labeled, these oligomers make excellent probes and offer distinct advantages over conventional nucleic acids. PNA probes are very small (12 ñ 20 mers), show both strong signals and very low background. PNA-FISH is a powerful technology to explore chromosome structure on the metaphase and interphase chromosome. |

PNA Fish Applications |
|
| |
In FISH applications PNA probes have several remarkable properties. One of the most powerful aspects of PNA-probe based explorations of chromosome structure is due to the exquisite base-discrimination in FISH applications. Very short PNA oligomers can be effectively utilized. Despite the short length of the PNA oligomers the strength of interaction with target, and hence the strength of the FISH signal, is greater than for a DNA oligomer. |

PNA Synthesis |
|
| |
All PNA oligomers were synthesized on an ABI 433A using Boc chemistry [15]. The fluorescein was attached to the PNA by activating a 0.1 mol/l 5, (6)-carboxyfluorescein solution with 0.095 mol/l HATU and 0.1 mol/l diisopropyl-ethylamine. |
