8-Amino dA and 8-amino-dG, are 8-amino-puridines that are often used in the study of triplex (triple helix) formation due to the presence of an additional amino group. The 8-amino group is able to form an additional Hoogsteen purine-pyrimidine hydrogen bond, which serves to increase triple helix stability. Studies have shown that triple-helix-forming oligos (TFO) containing 8-amino-dA form stable helices at a neutral pH, instead of under acidic conditions.
