Founded in 1984 as OCS Laboratories, Bio-Synthesis, Inc. became the first producer of commercially available synthetic DNA. In 1985, the company expanded its operation to became a producer of synthetic peptides. Five years later, OCS became incorporated as Bio-Synthesis, Inc. and moved its laboratories to Lewisville. Bio-Synthesis now occupies 10,000 square feet of modern laboratory space 20 miles from downtown Dallas and 10 miles from D/FW airport. Bio-Synthesis maintains a vibrant relationship with surrounding academic institutions including the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School, the University of North Texas, and the University of North Texas Medical Center. Under this dynamic partnership, Bio-Synthesis has steadily expanded its product and service offerings, and the university community has benefited from presentations by Bio-Synthesis employees. Without compromising quality it has maintained its position as an aggressive, innovative company in a highly competitive marketplace. To its original focus on synthesizing high-quality DNA primers and linkers which were the initial uses of oligos. BSI has added DNA paternity testing, DNA HLA typing, PNA's, genomic sequencing, fluorescence-based genotyping, custom organic synthesis and other molecular-biology-based applications to serve a growing customer base challenged by gene construction, PCR, mutagenesis, combinatorial libraries, dye/adduct labeling, DNA microarrays, and peptide-nucleic acid chimerics.
BSI's research and development department comprises several Ph.D.s and M.D.s with backgrounds in molecular biology, immunology, nucleic acids, peptide synthesis, general organic chemistry, and automated amino acid sequencing. The molecular biology division is set up to handle most modern experimental procedures, and the immunology division provides immunodiagnostic-based reagents.
