The L-DNA base can be incorporated internally or at the either end of the oligonucleotide as well as chimeric L-DNA/D-DNA synthesis. This enantiomeric DNA, L-DNA has several unique properties . They can be used as nucleic acid probes, in gene interference, in gene knockdown because of their intracellular stability resulting from their resistance to nucleic acid enzymes recognition and digestion.
