Is “functional group modification” the same as residue-selective chemistry?
Yes. In practice, “functional group modification” belongs under side-chain functional group modification (residue-selective chemistry), such as cysteine-specific thiol reactions, lysine-selective amine chemistry, and tyrosine-selective phenol chemistry.
What is included in cysteine-specific chemistry?
Typical cysteine-specific workflows include iodoacetamide/haloacetyl labeling, maleimide coupling, and disulfide formation/scrambling control—chosen based on whether you need a stable linkage or a reversible/cleavable connection.
Do modifications change purification and QC?
